Chapter 1: Ridiculous Book Transmigration
“Hiss...”
Yu Lingzhao felt waves of pain in her brain. She remembered reaching out dizzily to grope for her phone to see what time it was.
Mainly, the battle with the internet trolls last night had been so intense that she had forgotten how she eventually fell asleep.
But as she kept feeling around, Yu Lingzhao felt something was not right...
Silky, so silky!
The sensation under her hand was far too silky!!
Confirming the feel, it was a texture she could never afford. Yu Lingzhao shuddered, snapped her eyes open, and sat up abruptly.
Looking down, she was instantly stunned, this antique Huanghuali wood begonia-carved large bed and this ancient-style lake-blue smooth silk thin quilt!
Lifting her gaze, a massive screen blocked her view, featuring Su embroidery techniques and a screen full of exquisite and beautiful peonies!
She turned her head; there were two half-person-tall painted cloisonné animal-ear vases.
These things looked deathly expensive at a glance, feeling as though any single one could buy an apartment in Chaoyang!
Carved bed, lake-blue thin quilt, large peony screen, giant antique vases... this setup... why did it look a bit like the scenes in the novel she was reading?
She remembered that in that novel, the cannon fodder female supporting character with the same name as her, after being pushed by a lackey of the third female lead, Princess Qing'an, and hitting her head, woke up in a room exactly like this?
“County Princess? County Princess, you’re awake? Wuwuwu, this servant was worried to death about you!”
County Princess - Junzhu
A maid with her hair in twin buns, wearing a lake-green shirt, came in carrying water. Seeing Yu Lingzhao sitting up, she immediately set the basin aside and rushed over!
“County Princess, wuwuwu, let’s go back to the Jingnan Mansion. They are such bullies!” The little maid cried heart-wrenchingly.
With someone collapsed against her knees, Yu Lingzhao’s head felt like it was exploding from the crying.
She hadn't even finished memorizing the whole story; how did she transmigrate?
And she had transmigrated as the most tragic "Great Cannon Fodder," County Princess Mingzhu, from the cannon fodder family in this book?
The County Princess of a God of War Prince’s Mansion with a "god-tier" start: her father was a world-renowned God of War, her mother was the daughter of the Emperor’s Preceptor, and her three brothers were all brave and skilled in battle.
The young girl was devastatingly beautiful and deeply pampered.
How could such an "all-A" girl end up being nothing more than a stepping stone for the male lead!?
She was deceived by the male lead into thinking it was true love, but it was just a ploy to utilize her family.
After successfully ascending the throne, he exterminated this cannon fodder’s entire clan, including her maternal grandfather’s and maternal aunt’s families!
Her father died from the betrayal of a lieutenant, pierced through the heart by an arrow from that lieutenant less than a hundred meters from the army; her eldest brother and sister-in-law died in battle, with the sister-in-law five months pregnant at the time of her death; her mother jumped from the city gates to save her second brother, but unfortunately, the second brother was left with only one breath remaining.
The most tragic was the third brother; to save her, he ran all over the capital but found no way.
He was torn apart by chariots on charges of rebellion by the male lead, not even leaving an intact corpse!
It was right after reading this part that she had angrily cursed out the author.
And after one sleep, she had become County Princess Mingzhu!
Yu Lingzhao had ten thousand curses in her heart.
She tentatively called out "Huaping." The other party lifted a small face covered in tears and looked at her pitifully, "What does the County Princess wish to command this servant?"
Very good.
It’s not a dream; she really did transmigrate.
Yu Lingzhao never expected she really would be that cannon fodder supporting character’s maid!
Heaven knows the only reason she could remember this little maid's name was that the names of that same-named cannon fodder’s maids were all freaking ridiculous.
Huaping, Feiwu, Caiji.
They looked like nothing, but when read aloud, you could feel the author's malice toward "Yu Lingzhao"—Flower Vase, Trash, and Total Noob.
Flower vase - a female considered to be just a pretty face (attractive but not very competent)
Just as Yu Lingzhao was about to ask Huaping what the situation was outside, she heard the sound of people entering one after another.
Thinking of the upcoming plot where Princess Qing'an would bring her lackeys to find trouble, she instinctively frowned.
"Go and get my horsewhip!"
In order to avoid bringing negative attention to the Zhennan Prince's Mansion after arriving in the capital, the original host had been patient and yielding in all matters.
She was terrified that acting out would lead to imperial censors impeaching the Mansion and causing trouble for her father and brothers.
But in reality, the old Emperor trusted the Prince of Zhennan and relied on him to guard the south. As long as she didn't kill anyone in the capital, the old Emperor would turn a blind eye.
Hearing that the County Princess wanted her horsewhip, Huaping immediately wiped away her tears and nimbly got up to fetch it.
Yu Lingzhao roughly knew the reason for Huaping's excitement; after all, the original host was the pearl of the Zhennan Prince's Mansion and never used to wrong herself when things happened.
Yet after arriving in the capital, in less than half a month, she had suffered more grievances than in the previous ten-plus years!
She had even been pushed into hitting her head by the daughter of a minor official!
If she kept enduring, people would take her for a coward!
The moment the horsewhip was in her hand, the door was pushed open violently with a "Bang!"
Yu Lingzhao’s expression darkened. This Princess Qing'an truly... did not respect "Yu Lingzhao" at all.
"I heard our County Princess Mingzhu has woken up; This Palace has come to show some concern."
This Palace - Ben'gong, is a term used by princesses and high ranking consists, empress and so to refer to themselves.
Following that sharp voice, a girl dressed in luxurious clothing appeared before Yu Lingzhao, her chin tilted up in an overbearing manner.
The five-tailed phoenix-head pearl hairpin on her head signaled that she was Princess Qing'an herself.
Behind this Princess followed several lackeys.
Yu Lingzhao sneered.
The title "Mingzhu" (Bright Pearl) was originally a sign of the Prince of Zhennan's love for his daughter, meaning she was the pearl in his palm. But hearing Princess Qing'an say it filled it with irony.
It was as if once she left the Jingnan Mansion, no one would ever respect her as County Princess Mingzhu again.
Today, she would properly teach these "dogs acting powerful on their master's authority" exactly how much weight the title of County Princess Mingzhu of the Zhennan Prince's Mansion carried.
*To use one's position to bully others
Yu Lingzhao looked at Princess Qing'an, her gaze cold. "Are you bringing people here to apologize?"
Princess Qing'an was stunned, her originally mocking smile faltering. She was disappointed not to see the patient endurance she expected from Yu Lingzhao.
She also hadn't expected Yu Lingzhao to dare to bring this matter up proactively. She nodded carelessly, eyeing Yu Lingzhao with an arrogant look.
"Mhm, let's call it that. Baiwei, come, give our County Princess Mingzhu an apology."
A girl in a pink dress behind Princess Qing'an stepped forward, giving Yu Lingzhao a sham apology without even bending her knees.
"But then again, you were just careless. County Princess Mingzhu is magnanimous, surely... Yu Lingzhao, what are you doing!"
Princess Qing'an talked too much nonsense. Yu Lingzhao was too impatient to listen; she stepped forward and kicked Ruan Baiwei directly to the ground.
Without waiting for Ruan Baiwei to move, she raised her hand and lashed out with her whip.
The strike made Ruan Baiwei scream in pain and sent Princess Qing'an's lackeys into a panicked frenzy of shrieks.
The horsewhip whistled fiercely past Princess Qing’an’s ear; she could even feel the sharp, cutting wind of the lash!
Never having been treated this way before, Princess Qing’an let out a shrill scream: "Yu Lingzhao!"
Yu Lingzhao gave a cold smile and stepped onto Ruan Baiwei’s kneecap, applying more and more pressure—
"You dog acting on your master’s power! Even when your father sees this County Princess, he has to respectfully bow his head in greeting. You, however, seem to have quite the stiff spine, eh?"
Panic and fear flooded Ruan Baiwei’s heart.
Before she could even beg for mercy, a sharp pain shot through her leg, and she shrieked before fainting dead away.
Yu Lingzhao stood up straight as if nothing had happened and said with a smile, "She caused me to hit my head, nearly killing a First-Rank County Princess in the Princess’s Mansion. Breaking one of her legs is getting off easy. Princess Qing’an, don’t you agree?"
Princess Qing’an’s heart leaped, and an ominous premonition welled up inside her.
Yu Lingzhao, has she, has she lost her mind from the impact?!
Princess Qing’an looked at Yu Lingzhao in shock. Seeing her still smiling radiantly, she blurted out, "Yu Lingzhao! You are insolent!"
Yu Lingzhao arched an eyebrow, her smile not fading in the slightest as she took a step toward Princess Qing’an: "That’s right, I’m being insolent. Go ahead and sue me in front of His Majesty."
Princess Qing’an was forced back repeatedly by her advance, and several maids rushed forward to block the path in front of the Princess.
Yu Lingzhao gave a cold sneer.
With a flick of her wrist, she brandished the horsewhip before Princess Qing’an’s eyes and chuckled, "What’s the panic? Her Highness the Princess is of noble status; of course I wouldn't be disrespectful to her. As for the others..."
Her gaze lingered on those behind Princess Qing’an.
With the blatant threat in her words, the noble young ladies following Princess Qing’an finally began to panic in earnest.
